I am thrilled to announce the launch of the SeaBreezes Clothing website! SeaBreezes is a lovely women's clothing store in the heart of Hyannis, MA. When they approached me, they were ready for a slight update to their logo and a new website. I updated their logo, expanded their existing palette, and designed and art-directed the site. I worked with the wonderful Sarah Wiesbrock to build it. The site includes a home page with 3 rotating images and a custom blog. It was created in WordPress so that the client has the flexibility to update most of the content themselves. See the full site here.

I just added my latest cover design for the New York Times Best-selling series, Emily Windsnap, to my website. This is the fifth book in the series. It was released by Candlewick Press. I continued with the new look that I established for the series last year. This project differed in that I worked with illustrator Sarah Gibb to create original artwork for the cover. The cover features a shimmery blue foil stamp on the title typography and a glitter spot gloss on the bubbles. Completing the package for a shiny, sparkly mermaid tale!

I am so excited to share the branding package I created for Bisousweet Confections. But first I have to say something about Bisousweet. Their baked goods are, without a doubt, the best I have ever tasted. They have a way of taking the classics and elevating them to a level that I didn't know was even possible.

When Karen Collins, the talented pastry chef and owner of Bisousweet Confections (formerly Babycakes and Confections) approached me she was in the middle of a rebrand. Her business was expanding and she wanted to refine her brand and take it in a new direction. I worked closely with her to create a package that included logo, submarks, graphic elements, palette and the Bisousweet pattern. Karen was fantastic to work with. After we established the brand, we moved on to create some collateral materials. The sell sheet for their amazing cupcakes is above, as well as the new business card design. (The images for the sell sheet were taken by Michael Quiet.)

I am excited to share the logo I created for Lisa Hicks of The Holistic You. The Holistic You is holistic health practice that focuses on preventative, balanced care. I loved working with Lisa. She has a clear, elegant, fabulous aesthetic. It was so fun to bring that to her brand. I look forward to working with her on future projects!

Time to celebrate! Last week was a very exciting week. Laura Amy Schlitz, won a Newbery Honor for her fantastic book, Splendors and Glooms. The Newbery Honor is awarded annually by the American Library Association for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. I had the privilege of designing the book jacket. I worked closely with the amazingly talented and versatile illustrator Bagram Ibatoulline to create a jacket that conveyed the lush, magical dark mood of this amazing Victorian tale. The approach to this jacket was unique in that all parties (the Author, Editor, Art director and Designer) were involved from the initial concepting to final product. It was a joy to work on. In addition to the Newbery Honor, the American Library Association also awarded a Stonewall Honor to Lesléa Newman for her incredibly moving October Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard. The Stonewall is awarded for exceptional merit relating to the GLBT experience. I designed this jacket as well and recently posted about it here.
To add to the excitement, Jon Klassen won a Caldecott Medal for the wonderful, This Is Not My Hat.
I was lucky enough to work with the talented Mr. Klassen a couple years ago on the jacket for The Watch that Ends the Night: Voices from the Titanic. 

A huge congratulations to Laura, Lesléa, Jon and all of the fantastic and talented people at the phenomenal Candlewick Press who made these books possible!

The print I ordered from Fifty-Five Hi's arrived the other day. Love the packaging. The print was wrapped in the gorgeous paper above.

I have been enjoying the Top-Notch Type series by Eva Black over on Emmadime. The latest installment features a whimsical font designed by Eva herself, called Top-Notch Type. She created it using iFontMaker app. (I'm going to have to give this app a try!) Read more about the font and download it here.

I was recently given the task of rebranding the New York Times best-selling series, Emily Windsnap. It was a challenging assignment. I was to redesign the series, but use the existing art (which is by the talented Sarah Gibb) in a new way. I created this playful type new treatment, reworked the art and then focused on giving each book its own distinct color palette. The full jackets can be seen here on my site. I am happy to report that the new design has been very well received and is out-selling the old look 2 to 1!

Loving the font Frontage by Juri Zaech. It is so versatile!

I just discovered the Paperlux™ paper etching process. Paperlux™ is a design studio in Germany that has developed a paper etching process that creates a three dimensional impression of your art on paper. It is similar to embossing, but it doesn't leave a mark on the reverse side of the paper. The technique and their work is gorgeous.
